MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR
The Canadian Society of Medical Evaluators (CSME) was founded in 1996 to serve Canadian physicians and other health care professionals in performing medicolegal evaluations that rely on evidence-based medicine, best clinical practices and professional practice guidelines. Our members are drawn from the healthcare and legal professions and also include members from the case-management, rehabilitation and insurance industries. In light the multi-disciplinary composition and individual expertise of our membership, our goal with this newsletter is to make available to you the most relevant and recent legal decisions and evaluation issues coupled with the best available external clinical evidence from systemic research that will promote, as Sackett noted in 2002, “the conscientious, explicit and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions” within a medicolegal arena.
In doing so, we are always mindful that the evidence, by itself, does not make the decision, but it can help support evaluation process. And so, the nature of what is shared in these virtual pages are selected by way of our review of appropriate sources (e.g., only peer reviewed research publications) and our rigorous appraisal of the evidence for validity and applicability. We welcome submissions from our newsletter. Please forward any such submissions to Renee Levine at rlevine@csme.org
Respectively,
Editor in Chief:
