“REC” = Research, Education, Case Studies
(i.e., think “TED” talks if you are unfamiliar with the concept)

  September 16, 2018 (11:59 PM EST)

On November 16, 2018, CSME and CAPDA will be host to the second annual Medico-Legal Mental Health Summit in Toronto, Canada. The summit will include key note speakers along with a series of “REC” TYPE TALKSCSME | CAPDA membership is NOT required – anyone may submit their work for consideration and we encourage those to submit from allied health care professions (e.g., Neurology, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Rehabilitation Support Worker, and so on).

REC TALKS are topical oral sessions that are arranged at the discretion of the CSME | CAPDA Program Committee. Each talk will be limited to 12 minutes for oral presentation with 3-minute audience discussion. A moderator will adhere to these time limits.

There is no limitation on the number of submissions, but speakers are asked to use discretion because submitting multiple proposals is likely to create scheduling problems. Moreover, each REC talk should be limited to one idea (i.e., research, educational matter, or case study) only.

Those interested in presenting a 12-minute
REC TALK are invited to submit a 200-word proposal to the CSME | CAPDA Program Committee by September 16, 2018 (11:59 PM EDT) by email

We encourage participants to submit proposals on all topics broadly defined within the scope of medical – legal issues as it pertains to mental health. Example topics might include:

  • Basic and applied clinical research as it pertains to medical legal issues in mental health (assessment and treatment)
  • Complex case studies related to, but not limited to, causation, pre-existing issues, chronic pain, substance abuse, long term disability, and so on.
  • Medical legal case law and its application to clinical practice.
  • Matters related to catastrophic impairment ratings (e.g., GOS-E pathways, AMA 6th methodology, and so on).
  • Comment on medical legal landscape and future challenges (e.g., Marshall report, costs related to examinations, and so on)
  • Matters related to clinical practice (e.g., release of raw data, College requirements, complaints process, record keeping, confidentiality and mandatory reporting, do’s and don’ts in legal proceedings and communications, preparing for arbitration and cross examination, underserviced clinical populations, psychometrics, and so on)

Please include your contact information with all submissions.

All submissions will be peer reviewed by the Program Committee. The Program Committee Chair will make the final decision on all submissions.

All REC TALKS will be published in abstract format in the CSME Newsletter.

Abstracts will be published exactly as submitted. Please proofread carefully before finalizing your submission. Once the submission deadline has passed, we will be unable to accommodate any requests for corrections to typos or other entry errors made by the author during submission.

CSME |CAPDA CE credits will be awarded to summit participants as it pertains to their ongoing credentialing requirements.

Those selected to present a
REC TALK will be informed on, or about October 15, 2018.
