Review of Criteria 7 and 8. Discussion of recent case laws. Advanced interactive case analysis and review session, involving AMA Guide 6 analyses with real world data. This refresher course is designed for mental behavioural practitioners and will focus on the new (and previous) legislation as it pertains to Criterion 7 and 8 and the rating of mental health symptomatology using both the AMA Guides 4th and 6th Editions.

Focus of this session will be on the following topics:

  • Mental behavioural disorders
  • Mental impairment rating
  • Description of the AMA 4th Edition, Chapter 14 spheres of functioning
  • Case law and WPI% impairment rating conversion
  • AMA 6th Edition, Chapter 14; the new tools of the trade for WPI% impairment rating
  • An approach to navigating multidisciplinary scenarios

Review of SABS CAT Criteria 1-8 (pre- and post-2016)


PLEASE NOTE:


  1. The C-CAT Advanced Skills and Review course (Mental Behavioural) is intended as a brief review of the general SABS criteria and a forum to provide further training and instill confidence in handling a wider spectrum of case complexity within the mental health CAT framework. The focus will be on both applicable clinical practice as well as preparation for the C-CAT (MB) examination.
  2. Pre-requisites for this session includes completion of the C-CAT general Clinical Skills Training program as well as the Mental Behavioural Clinical Skills course (or their approved equivalents). These programs may be completed in-person or via online methods. Please note that completion of the Advanced Skills course alone does not qualify participants to write the C-CAT examination without the appropriate pre-requisites.
  3. It is strongly recommended that all participants in the Advanced Skills course (Mental Behavioural) bring a copy of the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment 4th Edition and 6th Edition for reference during the session.

  • Musculoskeletal injuries and condition
  •  Spinal cord impairment and disorders
  • Central and peripheral neurological conditions
  • Commonly encountered subspecialty topics
  • An approach to navigating multidisciplinary scenarios
