Associate Membership
CSME Membership Requirements:
- A medical license, current and unrestricted good standing with a provincial College of Physicians and Surgeons.
- Physicians must have practiced a minimum number of years before being considered for admission to the society as an general member. The minimum number of years is seven for a family physician or general practitioner, and is five years for a specialist in good standing with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Practice is defined as being in good standing on a Provincial Medical Register, as a general (not educational) practitioner, engaged in the treatment of patients. A physician not meeting these criteria may be entitled to membership upon a special resolution being passed at the AGM granting such membership.
- Must submit a current and complete curriculum vitae
- Must submit two examples of recent medicolegal evaluations (patient identifiers blanked out) with application
These samples will be graded based on the ability to do the following:
- Obtain a relevant, suitably detailed medicolegal history.
- Complete and describe a relevant, suitably in-depth clinical examination.
- Critically review and analyze case documentation and identify deficiencies in the database.
- Use clinical evidence to derive and clearly communicate diagnoses, impairments, and resultant disabilities.
- Fully address the issue of causality by reference to logical reasoning, the evidence as a whole, and formal causation rules.
- Express conclusions in fair and unbiased terms, with proper reference to the database, assessment, literature and evidence-based practices.
